戟龙又叫刺盾角龙，生活在白垩纪晚期，是植食性角龙类恐龙的一种，颈盾戟龙的头颅硕大，颈部长有美丽的盾状环形的装饰物。在盾状饰物周围长着6个大小不一的长角，这些构成了戟龙那大的吓人的颈盾，这个颈盾不但能吓住敌人。这个颈盾一般在强壮威武的雄性身上长得壮观美丽，而在雌性的身上并不发达，因此专家推测其作用主要是为了展示，以吸引异性的注意。因为这个颈盾看起来很像中国古代兵器中的戟，所以便形象地给它取名为戟龙。戟龙强健的四肢支撑起庞大的身体。戟龙的角和颈盾的骨刺像一把把利剑，是反守为攻的可怕武器。像鹦鹉一样弯曲的喙嘴，可以切割采食低矮植物的叶子。戟龙长约60厘米的鼻角，是进攻时的主要武器。
